Invincible Season 4 Episode 5 Just Raised the Bar
If you haven't watched Episode 5 yet, go do that first. I'll keep the big spoilers out of this, but fair warning, I'm going to talk about why this episode hits as hard as it does.
What You Need to Know
Season 4 has been building toward something. The Viltrumite War is in motion, Omni-Man is back in the picture, and Mark has been dealing with the fallout of everything that's happened since Season 1. Episode 5, "Give Us A Moment," is where all of that tension finally snaps.

The Conquest Rematch
This is the episode. The Conquest rematch is everything fans of the comic have been waiting for, and the show did not hold back. I'm not going to walk through every beat, but the animation during this fight is on another level. The team at Skybound went all out, and it shows in every frame.

The violence in this one pushes past anything the show has done before. That's saying something for a series that opened with the Guardians getting destroyed in Episode 1. People online are saying it nearly made them sick, and honestly, I get it. But it's not violence for the sake of it. Every hit in this fight carries weight because you know what's at stake and what Mark is willing to lose to win.
Comic readers knew this moment was coming. The show changes enough to keep it fresh even if you've read the source material. That's something Invincible has been doing well all along, and this episode might be the best example of it yet.
The Bigger Picture
What makes this episode land isn't just the action. There's a scene between Omni-Man and Debbie that the show handles completely differently from the comics. The original story moves past it quickly. The show doesn't. That choice gives the whole episode an emotional anchor that makes the chaos hit harder.
Sandra Oh, J.K. Simmons, and Steven Yeun are all doing some of their best work this season. Mark Hamill showing up doesn't hurt either.

Where We Go From Here
Episode 6 drops this Wednesday, April 8. Same day as The Boys Season 5 premiere. Stacked day for superhero content. If Episode 5 is any indication of where this season is headed, we're in for something special.
Come talk about it at the shop. I know some of you have been keeping up week to week, and this is the kind of episode you need to discuss with someone.
