The Boys Season 5 Is Here. This Is How It Ends.
Five seasons. That's all we get. The Boys drops its final two-episode premiere today on Prime Video, and after years of watching Homelander spiral deeper into full-blown supervillain territory, we're finally getting the endgame.
Where We Left Off
Season 4 left things in a bad place. Homelander runs the country. Hughie, Mother's Milk, and Frenchie are locked up in a "Freedom Camp." Annie is trying to build a resistance but the Supes have the numbers. Kimiko is missing. And Butcher? Butcher showed back up with a virus that can wipe every Supe off the map. That's the setup. Butcher versus Homelander, one last time, with literally everything on the line.

Why This Season Hits Different
Eric Kripke has been saying all the right things in the lead-up. He called the finale "gory, epic, and emotionally devastating" and straight up said there will probably be lots of death. That's the thing about a final season. No one is safe. No character has plot armor anymore. After four seasons of building these people up, Kripke gets to tear it all down.
The cast list alone tells you how big they're going with this. Karl Urban, Antony Starr, Jack Quaid, and the full crew are back. Jensen Ackles returns as Soldier Boy. And here's the part that got me: Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins are showing up in Episode 5. That's three Supernatural leads in the same show. Kripke created Supernatural, so getting the whole band back together for his other big series feels like a full-circle moment.

What I'm Watching For
The Butcher and Homelander rivalry is the obvious headline. But the story I'm most curious about is what happens with Ryan. Homelander's kid has been caught between two father figures for the entire show, and a final season has to resolve that. However they handle it is going to hurt.
Eight episodes. Weekly drops through May 20. If you've been putting off catching up, today is the day to start.
Swing by the shop if you want to talk about it. I've got a feeling this one is going to give us plenty to discuss.
