MTG Secrets of Strixhaven Might Be the Set of the Year
Preview season wraps up tomorrow, the prerelease kicks off April 17th, and the full release hits April 24th. If you haven't been following the card reveals for Secrets of Strixhaven, here's the short version: this set is packed.
What's In the Set
Strixhaven is Magic's magical university plane. Five colleges, five color pairings, five very different vibes. The first Strixhaven set dropped back in 2021, and this return picks up where it left off with "all grown up" versions of the original characters.
175 cards in the main set. But the headline feature is the return of the Mystical Archive. That's a bonus sheet of 65 iconic instants and sorceries from Magic's history, all with brand new artwork. One in every single pack. The original Mystical Archive was a massive hit, and bringing it back is the kind of decision that gets collectors and players excited at the same time.

Five Commander Precons
This is the biggest Commander release of the year. Five preconstructed decks, one for each Strixhaven college: Lorehold Spirit, Prismari Artistry, Quandrix Unlimited, Silverquill Influence, and Witherbloom Pestilence. Most sets get two Commander decks. Getting five means there's something in here for just about every play style.
The community has been calling these some of the strongest precons in recent memory. Good reprints, solid new cards, and commanders that actually look fun to build around. The Silverquill deck in particular has been getting a lot of attention for its value.

The Buzz
Early reactions from the MTG community are calling this a serious candidate for best set of 2026. People have been wanting a proper return to Strixhaven, and from what the previews have shown, Wizards delivered. The Mystical Archive alone would carry a set, but pairing it with five Commander decks and a solid main set puts a lot of product on the table.
Prerelease runs April 17th through the 23rd. Street date is April 24th. If you're planning to grab booster boxes, bundles, or any of the Commander precons, now is the time to get your preorders in before things start moving.
